Yet another stressed student's thread

Hi.

I don't want to sound too rude or anything like it, it's just that I am a bit high and don't really care all that much right now.

My heart was crushed yesterday - got a rejection from Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Penn. (College) Waiting for Stanford, but I am pretty much done. But.

I got admitted to Warwick Uni in the UK for mathematics. I will be attending and so I was wondering how should I deal with this rejection. I don't wanna see it as a major disappointment. I'd like to see it as a "bump" in my so called career. I mean, the rejection was kinda obvious - International student, unique ECs, Europe, poor background, great grades, but I underestimated the importance of SATs. Got a 32/36. I am just that kind of kid who hopes he can makes it, but then gets distracted and fail a stupid test. If I knew 4 years ago that I want to end up in IB, I would have done things differently. Whatever.

Hence I'd like to ask - What should my objectives now be? If I understand all of this completely, acceptance to bschool depends solely on things that will happen since September, so I suspect: high GPA (or UK's equivalent to that); maybe keep up with few ECs (they are bschool related) and try to get to an analyst position? (apparently big banks from London recruit at Warwick)?

Also, is there a position in the IB world which would be related to MBA but involved a lot of math(s)? It's just that I have heard that analysts usually just spend whole day looking at Excel, and I kinda like math a lot (got a 36/36 on math section). I am also thinking about Oxford Master's in Comp. and Financial Engineering.

Thank you for your responses.

Also, I am ashamed to ask this, but - what's the general opinion of the IB world on smoking pot? I am also sorry for the grammar, I am a bit ...

TL; DR - This is the end of this terrible stressed student's thread.

Haha opinion about smoking pot. That is funny, dude. Warwick is not on the same wavelength as the other schools you mentioned here. But if you are EU citizen you should have any problem making it to London IB from Warwick .

The role you are looking for is not an IBD role it is going to be a quant role. You can be in research, S&T, AM, risk management as a quant. It is great role, less stressful and better hours than IBD and sometime more money. Quants have more value to a firm than IBD analyst.

I am, unfortunately, aware of the wavelength problem. That's why it hurts a bit.

Quants. Uhm, well, I suppose so, but I suspect I would need to get a Master's somewhere in the UK? And then again, is quant w/o phd really a quant?

Yes, you can be a quant without a PhD. But you need a higher degree than a 3 year bachelors. If you want to be in the US, there are a lot of very good MFE (Master's in Financial Engg) that would give you a great platform to become a quant without a PhD. I am not very aware of the UK market.
