Nontarget sophomore

I am a sophomore at a nontarget/semitarget majoring in applied math with around a 3.6 gpa with no consulting or internship experience, I only have hard labor work experience. What kind of internships should I try to get after my sophomore year if management consulting is my goal after I finish my applied math degree?

Aim for an internship with a big brand employer (not necessarily in the consulting industry). This will make you stick out when your resume is being reviewed. Also make sure you get to do real work with team interaction because it makes for good conversation during the behavioral part of interviews.

What departments should I apply for? Are there any specific ones consultants like to see?
