As a SA you want to fit in, therefore:

-Bow ties are a no.

-Try to go traditional/conservative...one/two colors. Material wise try to go Silk.

-Please dont use Hermes/Ferragamo even if they were gifts, will make you look like a douche.

Later on you can be a little more edgy, personally I use Ferragamo ties, I like the quality and the designs, but the price tag is quite high, so I would not expect an SA wearing em.

I describe an SA role at an IB firm, as M. Gustave does the lobby boy position at the Grand Budapest Hotel:

"What is a lobby boy? A lobby boy is completely invisible, yet always in sight. A lobby boy remembers what people hate. A lobby boy anticipates the client's needs before the needs are needed. A lobby boy is, above all, discreet to a fault. Our guests know that their deepest secrets, some of which are frankly rather unseemly, will go with us to our graves. So keep your mouth shut, Zero."

To answer your question, put an asterisk on "Completely invisible"

"A man can convince anyone he's somebody else, but never himself."

Are there any limits to price or total how much you want to spend on ties?

Generally:

1) Tie Bar - Good designs, solid material for about $15 bucks

2) Brooks Brothers - Great classic designs for around $40-$100 bucks

3) Century 21 - prices vary, but they have a bunch of different name brands

-Stick with colors such as blue, red, green and you're safe. No more than 1 stripe of color and the stripes must be the same size.

Personal Note - I would rather have more ties than fewer, even if cheaper.
