I don’t do shit in my internship
I’m literally on my phone and taking naps throughout the day while getting paid a ridiculous amount. Anyone else in the same boat?
Im not complaining im just curious to see who else is in the same situation lmfao

I'm in similar boat, wfh internships are a joke
What kind of firms are you guys at? Big, small...?
BB, I sit around with my hand in my balls watching Netflix
.
Question deriving from this post: anyone knows how to make them give you more work if asking doesn't help?
I’d talk to analysts. Some firms are limiting work for interns because they fear leaking non public information so in general I think summer staffers are playing it safe.
Analysts will definitely have some work for you to do, most likely non of it sexy or fun, but if you want something to do I’d go to where the work actually piles up
would agree with this
This is right.
What are you going to do when you have an interview and they ask about your internship experience?
have banks not given guaranteed return offers like MBB?
The situation is very different for consulting vs banking. 1. Most banks will over hire interns compared to their full time needs by 30 percent and then take the best 70 percent for full time. But, with the poor economy that number will probably be closer to 50 percent. How does it make sense to give guaranteed offers to 50 percent of the class that would be redundant? Comparatively consulting firms under hire by a good amount so that the majority of their class comes in through full time recruiting (the banks that do full time hiring do very little). Consulting firms would just decrease full time slots accordingly without need for redundant employees.
Make up a bullshit answer like every other fake smart person that goes into IB lol
Literally nothing. Paying me to take naps lol.
Are you at a BB?
I do the exact same in my internship, just BS presentations. Stacking bread tho
Prop firm has me learning about coding and mostly training stuff for the last couple of weeks
there's prop firm internships? Interesting, in the US right?
Yes in the US
I'm doing an unpaid internship and I literally sleep and watch youtube all day. My tasks are basically finance homework assignments with no deadlines... because the firm has barely any dealflow I guess.
sounds bleak
They literally do not have legit work for me to do and I already have an internship for Summer 2021 so I'm not even looking for some sort of return offer type deal. Honestly, I do not know what to do with myself at this point.
Lol it's half half at my bank. Some kids are sitting on their dick all day and other are having an existential crisis about if they really wanna do banking ft. Unfortunatly I'm in the latter :')
same boat been waiting for someone to say this
Yeah, gaining your analyst's trust is a blessing and a curse lol. I'm actually so glad the internship is cut short- this fucking blows ass
This man’s pulling out a combination of words that I can’t wrap my head around.
Bro what does this mean?
Boomer detected
Thank the lord- thought I was only one having a crisis and I didn't even go into this internship on a whim... big feels for those not knowing fully what they were signing up for.
Yeah it really sucks but at the same time it's exactly what I signed up for. 2 years of pain for a really great learning experience and exit opps- keep your eyes on the prize and stay strong brother
Can't say I'm surprised. Delegating work to interns is difficult to begin with - they're mostly a negative value-add. You can really only trust them with the menial tasks that you don't have time for, and it takes until mid-summer for them to really get the hang of it / stop making mistakes.
Now internships are shortened and 100% virtual. It's almost impossible to build rapport, start trusting their work, "swing by" to discuss a project or have any idea what they're working on.
I'd recommend that whenever you're given a task just crush it - do it quickly, make no mistakes, and ask how you can help next. Better yet - start to think about what the next steps would be, and offer to help with those. It's easier for people to say "yes, do that" than it is to think of ways you can help and schedule a zoom meeting to explain them to you
I’m an intern and make so many mistakes, I feel like I don’t help too much tbh.
Lol I fucking wish. I’m doing back breaking work researching public and private companies in my sector and building presentations. I’m damn near seeing the cap iq home screen when I close my eyes....annddd I’ve yet to see my first check hit my account lmao
summed it up perfectly
At an investment firm and my internship is fucking dead. I rode it out for first couple weeks but I’m bored shitless right now. I asked them if there was anything going on that I could do substantial work on and they pretty much told me deal flow is fucked. I just speed through the bs assignments and hop back on the PS4. It’s nice to get paid for what I’ve been doing since I got my 2021 offer, but I’m tired of this virus shit. Someone make a fucking vaccine!
Bruh u lucky I gotta be aware of what’s going on in the market so no ps4 but a lot of laying down
Damn bro that sucks. Can't you set up alerts or something? Or just get some HF intern to run warzone duos with you.
What if I told you we had a valid vaccine yet we were still masking and WFHing in August 2021?
Working my ass off and am not getting paid.
Relatable AF
Thankfully my internship’s in person, but I commute like 30 minutes every day to literally just sit around and then make a presentation once every few days. No pay either, just getting a name on the resume and I’m bored af
In person right now and unpaid? Yikes.
Yeah it’s a local boutique. Gotta get those freshman/sophomore internships
I'm lucky that I get to go into my office, but still not a ton to do. Mostly just administrative work and a bit of modeling. Gets pretty boring during the day and I just go on my phone or browse WSO and whatnot.
Seems like virtual internships are extremely hit or miss. Some days I literally do nothing, other days, like today, I'm jammed. Granted I'm doing a directly finance-related internship, but I'm getting paid a decent amount to work for a Fortune 100 company and I'm very grateful for the experience.
Will be very interesting to see how they decide who gets a return offer
Gotta be 70% on intern projects and 30% on if they think they like you through various virtual networking events/calls.
Eat some fiber, should help.
Bump
I was literally about to say the exact same thing
At a BB on the same boat
same boat, absolute joke working from home lmao
In the same boat as well. Internships will not reflect the full time experience lol
All fun and games until you don't get the return offer
im a full time associate at a BB and I feel the same way hahaha
still have some deals to work on - clients are all just super chill right now ("no need to rush this analysis")
Saving like 90% of my pay right now.
what do you think offer rates will be like this summer?
Meanwhile I'm at full capacity, can't wait to dump this stuff off to the new first years since you can't trust the interns with anything.
the worst is when an intern fucks up a simple task then asks quote "can i get some more intellectual work". god no, especially when you cant meet deadlines for mindless deliverables
i have interns that attend top ivy league schools and i went to a non-target. now i feel like i was a damn genius when i was an intern
Do some online modeling courses, etc. At some point you'll need those skills, Excel and PPT, too. Don't waste the time. Regardless of what return offer, etc - that's not the point. Master the skills. It's a shame the internship is so weak.
