Am I really in AM or was a I fooled by a job title?

Ok this must sound stupid but I have to ask…

I went to an non-target uk uni and graduated with a first in economics, after coming out was hunting for jobs, I applied to well into the 400’s, networking, trying to pull on any strings from my unconnected family and friend circle, I feel I crafted the perfect applications every time, I got a few 1st round interviews but nothing further and then finally got what I felt at the time was the holy grail (not actually the holy grail, massively short of what I wanted but, good in terms of what I can get) - An interview at a boutique asset management firm.

In short though, I work managing day to day things for high net work individuals and families and their portfolios, submitting trades and very basically managing funds and portfolios but it just doesn’t seem like anything more than an admin job… am I missing something or is this AM and if so, how on earth do I move on?!

yeah, that's technically asset management because you are managing other people's assets (aka cash & trading portco). My college professor's first job was not dissimilar to your experience except he was telling these old retirees not to blow money fast on a new car for their grandchildren. Of the spectrum of AM roles, it's probably the least "glamourous".

p.s. yes, i realize it's a contrived reading of the job title.

It’s a form of AM. Are there opportunities to move in the firm? Are you involved in any research? Also, are you in your first 6 months or year? Could be you’re getting fed responsibility a step at a time.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.
