Apply to jobs now, or wait for after summer classes?

Hey guys,

I'm a rising junior looking for an asset management SA role for 2025. I'm from a non-target with a 3.43 GPA. I'm currently enrolled in 2 summer classes, one of which is me retaking a class I got a C+ in. Both classes end late June, and assuming I get an A in both, it will raise my GPA to a 3.55. I know a lot of apps have been open for a while now, but is it worth waiting until after those classes? I'll most likely end with at least a 3.5 and I also am currently doing an internship at a really small AM firm this summer.

Plz help.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider:

  1. Current GPA and Timing:

    • Your current GPA is 3.43, and you expect it to rise to 3.55 after your summer classes end in late June.
    • Many applications for summer analyst roles have been open for a while, and waiting until late June might mean missing out on early opportunities.
  2. Application Strategy:

    • Apply Now: Submitting applications early can be advantageous as it shows eagerness and ensures your application is considered before positions fill up.
    • Update Later: You can apply now with your current GPA and mention in your cover letter that you are retaking a class and expect your GPA to improve by the end of the summer. Once your GPA improves, you can update the firms with your new GPA.
  3. Networking:

    • Continue networking with alumni and professionals in the industry to tip the odds in your favor. Networking can sometimes compensate for a slightly lower GPA.
  4. Internship Experience:

    • Highlight your current internship at the small asset management firm. Practical experience is highly valued and can strengthen your application.

In summary, it might be beneficial to apply now and update your GPA later. This approach ensures you don't miss out on early opportunities while still showcasing your improved academic performance once available.

Blunt. You don’t really have a chance. Try but make a back up plan.
