Asset Management Recruitment Timeline
Hello!
I've so far only been recruiting for investment banking, but am equally interested in pursuing a career in Asset Management OR Equity Research. What are the recruitment timelines for these internship programs at bulge bracket banks? Banking typically recruits one year early (so recruiting for Summer 2022 has almost finished up). Is this the same for Asset Management and ER?
Thank you so much!!

I mean this is based off what I know from my dad who works at Wellington Management and speaking to a recruiter. But it seems like most of the big AM firms are looking for looking for rising juniors. They have sophomores programs that give an accelerated process to applying to their rising senior programs. The rising senior stuff is basically the same as the entry level job with them offering you a spot at the end if they think you added enough value or have fit. AM seems to be harder to get out of undergrad since there’s far less spots than in banking. Hoping a professional in the AM space can give some insight
From what I've seen, deadlines have already passed or are coming up soon at a lot of buyside shops. Not sure about the timelines for AM/ER at BBs
Which shops are you talking about?
Sequoia Fund, Fidelity, Dodge & Cox, PIMCO are what I've seen at my school. Idk about Blackrock and Vanguard, although if you're interested in active management, you probably won't be following those firms as closely anyway
PIMCO opened apps on July 1st for all 2022 summer analyst roles across alt credit, portfolio analyst, software engineering, global wealth management, accounts, bus dev, and more. The most competitive position is definitely the alternative credit/private strats group where they do distressed/opportunistic direct investing.

Signed a 2022 summer offer from a highly respected independent AM shop several weeks ago. Would assume that non-BB AM already finished or are in the process of finishing recruiting. They don't want to be slow on recruiting so that they're left with scraps.
Holy fuck, recruiting is that accelerated huh? Congrats on the offer btw.
