Breaking into FO

I am currently in an asset management BO operations role. Couldn't break into FO role out of school (lower GPA and non-target school). Looking to break into FO and don't feel like the work that I'm currently doing is relevant experience that will help me get into FO role. I know that networking is most important but what else can I do to better my chances. I'm willing to put in the extra work and time now that I didn't in college. I want to sit for the CFA but I'm worried that passing the exams in itself won't really help. Since I've recently finished undergrad and have barely any work experience I know it would be too early to go back to school to get an MBA especially since I probably wouldn't be able to get into a top school. The other option I've recently considered is going back to school to get a masters in finance. I know these programs are usually only about 30 credits and don't require work experience and it would potentially make me more competitive for FO entry level roles. In addition, it would also be a better networking opportunity than self studying for the CFA exams and would also probably give me a good base knowledge for when I do study for the CFA exams. Should I just self study and take the CFA exams or go back to school for a masters of finance first?
