Consultant Database Reporting Analyst (RFP)

Hi - so I'm interested in an entry level consultant database reporting position and wanted to know from experienced monkeys:

Most important traits to succeed for the job?
A day in the life of being one (hours, salary, projects, etc).
What kind of career path this could take you in? Also, in an interview - what are they looking for in terms of 5- yr career path if you're new to the field? It seems like this could lead to a marketing or rfp writer role.

Just to clarify, the consultant database reporting position means I'd be making sure consultants' databases are up to date and accurately display the asset manager's fund data.

Thanks!
