Day in life of a long-only investment analyst?
Can anyone shed some light on this? I see there are posts on IB/ER/HF day in life. But not so much on long-only investment analyst

0800-0830 - At desk for UK market open @ 8am, have breakfast, chat with colleagues about any news
0830-0930 - Write up any news on holdings and anything else that catches my eye to send to wider team
0930-1200 - Usually meetings either with companies/brokers/internal team or updating models on the back of recent news/results
1200-1300 - Gym and grab lunch on way back to office
1300-1330 - More studying
1330-1600 - Research on new potential investments and/or meetings
1600-1640 - Placing new/checking existing trades into market close and auction, catch up on emails
1640-1800 - Research/Modelling, plan for next day & any ad-hoc requests for marketing material etc.
1800-1900 - Another hour of studying before heading home
1900-2300 - Have dinner/catch up with friends/chill out
My god you manage to get in 3.5 hours of CFA studying a day
Indeed. It’s rough mate but short term pain and doing a lot on weekdays gives me flexibility on weekends to do more stuff socially and enjoy my free time. Once you’re in the routine it comes pretty naturally although I admit it took a while to become used to
how much is your gym in the City just out of curiosity?
£100pm
Can you go into detail the hours you put in studying for CFA level 1?
Quant investment analyst. EST. LO fund.
6:00am - wake up
7:00-7:30am - get to the office
7:30-8:00am - daily routine analyses and emails
8:00-9:30am - meetings or ad-hoc research (usually results are needed in a very short time frame to support investment processes).
9:30am-4pm - ad-hoc research or long-term research projects, monitor market activities and fund portfolios.
4pm-6pm - keep working on projects if they have not been finished or I am behind schedule.
8:00pm until ??? And weekends? - beyond 4pm Monday to Friday, no one will ask me to do any work, but typically I only have time to work on - 1. our infrastructure or 2. investigate things I personally find interesting or 3. think of new ideas - outside the normal work schedule. Also I am expected to keep an eye on what's going on in markets around the world.
