FI AM Resources

Hey everyone,

Joining a T1 LO as a RA next year out of university. I want to get better training in fixed income because that is where I want to end up long term given the greater need for active management. Any resources/places to start getting FI education?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some excellent resources and strategies to build your knowledge in fixed income:

  1. Books: Start with Frank Fabozzi's works on fixed income. His books are highly regarded and cover fundamental concepts like present value, interest rate dynamics, and quantitative risk analysis, which are essential for understanding fixed income markets.

  2. News and Articles: Regularly read the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Their financial news often includes helpful explanatory notes, such as how yields move inversely to prices in fixed income securities. This will help you stay updated on market trends and deepen your understanding.

  3. Online Resources: Use platforms like Investopedia and Wikipedia to fill in gaps when you encounter unfamiliar terms or concepts. Wikipedia, in particular, often provides in-depth explanations and alternative calculation methods for financial metrics.

  4. WSO Free Modeling Series: Take advantage of the WSO Free Financial Modeling Lessons. These lessons include training on financial statement modeling, DCF, M&A, LBO, and Excel modeling, which can be beneficial for fixed income analysis.

  5. Networking and Training Programs: Consider attending specialized training programs or networking events. Programs like the WSO Academy or other elite finance training sessions can provide structured learning and networking opportunities.

By combining these resources, you'll build a strong foundation in fixed income and position yourself well for a long-term career in active management.
