Harris Associates

Hi all,

Have an interview at Harris Associates coming up and couldn’t find much recent information on the fund. Can anyone speak to its reputation, where it falls relative to other long only equity asset managers (e.g. Capital Group, Wellington, etc.).

Thanks!

Harris/Oakmark manages around or less than $100 billion, so they are much smaller than the ones you listed, but reputation-wise, they are as good, if not better in some areas. Roughly speaking, they have two teams: US and international. You can find the interviews with/commentaries by Bill Nygren, who manages the Oakmark Fund, and David Herro, who manages the international portfolio, all over the internet. They employ solid value philosophies and have a decent (and long) track record despite the value slump over the last few years. The analysts usually have great exit opportunities if they choose to move. I believe the person will have to be based in Chicago. I'd take a quick look at the holdings on the Oakmark website.

Samra and okeefe run a great process now away from Harris. Have heard great things about Harris in passing a few people previously interested in joining.

Thanks guys for your replies! I'm still very new to the long only equities space, so would appreciate your thoughts on what is the general tier list of firms here that I should look for, and where would Harris place on that list? Thank you!
