The Client Businesses serve both institutional and retail clients, including corporate, public, union and industry pension plans; insurance companies; third-party mutual funds; endowments; foundations; charities; corporations; official institutions; banks; and individuals worldwide. This opportunity to join as an Intern within the Client Businesses provides broad exposure to Asset Management, the market, and a wide variety of financial products.

The internship could be in one of the following areas: Retail, Insitutional or iShares

RETAIL

The retail business is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with retail investors, including, asset managers, investment banks, private banks, charities, family offices, platforms, Independent Financial Advisors (IFA) and insurers.

The position will be to support sales efforts of BlackRock mutual funds (long only active; indexing and alternative) and interact with clients on a daily basis. The position will also have the following responsibilities:

Coverage of clients and participate actively to the local sales effort
Answer daily requests from clients including Wealth Managers, Stockbrokers, Advisers, Insurance Companies, etc
Assist senior sales people in BlackRock’s EMEA Retail sales business
Coordinate local marketing events and roadshows
Create competitor analysis

I really have no idea - can anyone help me out?

Looks to me like you'll be placing catering orders when the BlackRock rep visits Merrill lynch advisors. I could be wrong, but it seems like sales/wholesale support mentioned above. You could probably get some solid relationships out of it obviously, but don't expect to be gaining any actual analytical skills. Are you in NYC?

edit just saw the EMEA part, is that where the position is located or focused on funds concentrated in that area?

It is based in a European capital with a stock market that is the financial center of the nation (not sure if I should tell where). The role doesn't really fit the description above and I was told that I'll be joining the retail team that sells products to private banks and other retail investors. Is it considered "Sale"? Is it any usefull if I want to try a career in S&T?
