Leave tech firm to be a Wholesaler
I'm currently a Account Executive for a top Social media firm "LI" and I am debating whether or not to leave the tech industry to be a Wholesaler ? Any thoughts?

Love selling but all depends on what firms your thinking about. What are you currently doing? Tech is a lot of behind the desk selling and that's why I want to get in the Wholesaling world.
Been out of work for a few months due to a few different reasons. I interviewed at Oracle and Salesforce, but didn't receive any offers unfortunately. Currently looking into some high growth companies in my area.
Internal or External? There's a big difference. Our Externals routinely rack up between $1/4 - $1/2m a year in pay. The internals basically have to get their laundry, and are lucky to crack $110k. A friend who left the firm thinks the job is on the downswing, and in ten years it'll pay like medical sales with a lot more stress.
I would have to start as an internal. Since I'm very familiar with the space and I can sell I think I would be able to transition to an external Wholesaler after a year or two. I think all of sales is transitioning whether its tech, med device or Wholesaling. I just think there will always be big money in Finance. Would love to hear any thoughts.
Ha! $110k for Internals?! Internals at my place probably are cracking half of that at best. That said, nearly all of them are recent college grads.
Outside of sales/people skills, wholesaling is all about how diversified the product suite is. If you've got a broad passive/active deck, that will smooth out your numbers over time and make you less likely to get fired.
I've seen massive numbers of wholesalers get laid off in a short amount of time simply because the stuff they're pitching is awful and underperforming.
I've heard numbers around 80k-top Internals make 200k all depending on what firm you are at. I would be in risk of taking a pay cut until I would get an external role. So for me I keep dancing around if I should make the jump or not.
I meant $110k all in, counting base bonus and sometimes some thanks from their externals. While It's unusual, I've heard of internals getting five figure christmas cards from their externals.
I'm an external...this job isn't going anywhere, at least my type isn't. Plan to spend more than 2 years as an internal especially if you have no experience otherwise. Also, plan to move if you want an external role and be very comfortable with traveling if you don't live in the NE.
