2024 LO AM Bonus Thread
Saw the HF thread started so thought I would kick it off here.
Strategy (Firm Type / Asset Class / Scale): Boutique LO equity shop, $1b+ AUM/IP.
Buyside Experience: 6 YOE, second year on this team.
Total 2024 Comp (Base + Bonus): $350k ($200 base + $150 bonus)
Total 2023 Comp (Base + Bonus): $250k ($200 base + $50 bonus)
Notes / Performance: The fund's performance was ok. Top of peer group but lagged the benchmark. I received a very positive review on my work product and I had a small positive contribution to the portfolio. It is a low turnover strategy so single year contribution is tough to measure. I was expecting a faster ramp in comp from year one but hopefully things scale more quickly going forward.
Bump
bump
Boutique LO >$1bn/IP
7 total YOE, 2 on buyside
$175k base + $150k bonus
good performance, fund struggling a little with outflows
happy with comp, should continue to ramp. Hoping to be $400-450k this year
Second year analyst, not associate right? Background before buyside?
That’s right. Was in wealth management before going to MBA. Hired out of MBA.
HY/LL LO >$2B
5YOE, LCOL
$105k base + $160k bonus
good performance
Boutique LO equity shop, >$1b/IP
7 YOE all on buyside post undergraduate
$650k ($200 base + $450 bonus)
Fund performance not great but my coverage pretty strong.
Nice, congrats on the good performance. What year did you become analyst and is your comp still scaling or is this the right ballpark going forward?
I was promoted to analyst and gained sector coverage after two years of being generalist research associate. Comp has scaled each year but base growth is likely plateauing (i.e., fixed $ increase as opposed to % increase last couple years as well as for 2025) as the firm culture is very performance driven, so bonus matters much more.
$10+ billion US E&F in L/MCOL city
YOE: 2 (joined after undergrad after interning in IB)
Last year: 90k base and 25k bonus
This year: 110k base and 40k bonus (expected after meeting with MD)
Anyone else now that we are in the new year?
Bump
I was at ~$350K last year with okay fund performance
How many years at the firm?
Is this all in? Or just the bonus? And YOE?
LO Equity: >10B
4 YOE, 2 on buy-side
95k base, 75k bonus
Good performance
Do you live in a low cost of living area?
I would say MCOL
I'm guessing this is an associate position?
$30B+ US Fixed Income shop. IG and HY/LL
YOE: 6 (2nd full year but did receive a stub bonus my first year since I joined late in the year)
2023: $275k ($130 base + $145 bonus)
2024: $325k ($145 base + $180 bonus)
2025: Base up to $155k
Notes: Good fund performance. Received a positive review and promoted to senior analyst so hopefully bonus will start to ramp.
~$2B boutique Value U.S. Equities
YOE: 8, 5 on buyside
Base $125k, bonus $100k
L/MCOL city
Good personal performance and now for my fund but hasn't resulted in inflows. Firm not growing, some other funds with outflows.
1 Yr ex (will be 1 yr in July), First Job out of UG
IG Corp Research in Southern US
$70k base (but qualify for OT since paid hourly), + $6k bonus (prorated for 1/2 year)
Team did really well, firm eh, salary and bonus is mostly standardized for all the people in the entry level program
Sounds like Voya? Below market btw - don’t know anybody hiring guys at $70k base anymore
Yeah it is, hoping salary will pick up meaningfully in the next few years, like the city a lot.
LO: >20b NYC
6 YE
2nd year associate on buyside
2023: 150 base + 100 bonus. 255k
2024: 155 base + 115 bonus. 270k
Base bumped to 175k
Feel like I’m being meaningfully underpaid - thoughts? I’m late 20s
This sounds pretty good for an associate. Is there a path to an analyst seat at your current firm or will you have to leave and get an MBA?
I think generally not. But heard from my friends that some of the more structured LO programs (think Cap Group or D&C) pays 4th yr asso at 250k total now.
Definitely a path to analyst but not learning here - any idea what T1s are paying for a third year associate?
4 YOE (1 IB, 3 buyside)
Large LO, equities
My coverage slightly underperformed but my team had great performance
$225k ($120 base + $105 bonus)
