London --> APAC (HK/SG) still doable?

Career plan: (UK) --> (HK)/ SG. I am not a citizen of either region, but can speak Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, and a SEA language fluently.

I'm applying to many internships, but mainly focusing on Global Markets (SnT / Research) and Asset Management (Multi asset/Public and private equities/ Fixed income, etc). AFAIK there used to be many Asians and Caucasians going from US/UK/Aus --> HK, but not in recent years as HK has become more and more China-market-oriented, esp IPOs of Mainland companies.

In the long-term, I hope to work in Macro / SnT / AM / HF / PE / PC / Family office (in HK/SG) roles. Might also consider commodities trading.

  1. I wonder if this trend is the same in SnT / AM roles in HK as well? What are the chances for lateral transfer to HK from the same global firm? Would it be easier to just hop to a different role at a different firm in APAC?
  2. If the above is possible, what is the best/common timeline for that (eg. after 2 years in London--> hk)? How does it compare to previous trends?
  3. What about going from HK --> SG? How common and feasible is this transition?
  4. When applying to APAC firms, will they still look at your university or just the working experience holding immense weight?

I am in a conundrum as to where I should mainly apply to, since many firms limit your internship applications to one global office / one role only. HK offices seem to be overwhelmed with Oxbridge/Imperial/LSE/Ivies/ Top 20 US unis Chinese applicants, thus it seems harder to break into HK summer internships directly. Hence I am considering transferring over after some Yoe in London.

Would appreciate any advice or insights to this, thanks a lot.
