PIMCO Private Strategies/ Distressed
Hey, I just wanted to ask regarding the private credit and distressed internship role at PIMCO. Would anyone be able to share what are the hirevues and superdays like. Is it similar to RX interviews? Or IB? or is it more on the fixed income side. How much do they expect you to know ?
Appreciate any help
Based on the most helpful WSO content, PIMCO's private credit and distressed internship roles are indeed competitive and sought after. While specific details about the hirevue and superday processes for these roles at PIMCO are not explicitly detailed in the context provided, we can infer some expectations based on industry standards and the nature of the roles.
Interview Structure: The interview process for roles in private credit and distressed sectors at firms like PIMCO often includes a mix of behavioral and technical questions. You can expect the process to be somewhat similar to investment banking (IB) interviews, given the financial analysis skills required, but with a stronger emphasis on fixed income, credit analysis, and understanding of distressed assets.
Technical Knowledge: For these roles, PIMCO would likely expect candidates to have a solid foundation in financial modeling, valuation, and credit analysis. Knowledge specific to fixed income markets, understanding of the capital structure, and the ability to assess distressed situations would be crucial. Familiarity with restructuring concepts (similar to RX interviews) could also be beneficial, given the focus on distressed assets.
Behavioral Questions: Like in most finance interviews, expect to discuss your interest in PIMCO, why you're drawn to private credit and distressed investing, and how your background has prepared you for this role. Demonstrating a passion for the markets and a keen interest in PIMCO's strategies in these areas will be important.
Preparation Tips: Reviewing case studies related to credit analysis and distressed investments, practicing financial modeling with a focus on fixed income securities, and staying informed about current trends in the credit markets can help prepare you for the technical aspects of the interview. For the behavioral part, be ready to articulate your career goals, how this internship fits into those goals, and what you can bring to PIMCO.
Remember, while the process may share similarities with IB and RX interviews, the focus on fixed income and distressed assets makes these roles unique. Tailoring your preparation to these nuances will be key to demonstrating your fit for the role.

It’s much more on private credit side, so RX knowledge is imperative. Expect classic RX IB questions + regular IB questions. It’s not as highly technical as a PJT, EVR, or MOE interview but would be prepared as if it were one of these. They like guys who have prior IB experience because the internship is largely self-driven tasks (very little hand-holding). Happy to provide some further insight over DM / call if you’re open to it.
Thank you so much for the insight and advice. Yes would definitely be interested to get on a call. Can you PM me please because it doesn’t allow me to PM u?
