depending on the AUM, i recommend interactive Brokers, as long as your assets are at around 100k+ you should be fine. if you are just straight up value and not much trading then TD Ameritrade is the best. My college has 1mill+ in there SMF and they use IB just becouse we trade weekly.

I was thinking of doing something similar but calling it the "Financial Analysis Group for Students".

^I see what you did there

I founded a student asset management group at my school and we are going to get it started next fall. I was wondering if you guys had any suggstions on which trading platform to use?

any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Do it! is a differentiating factor and if you can successfully raise the capital needed to implement a supportable value investing strategy then you will have a strong discussion point for future interviews. In my experience people will initially scoff at the idea until it gains momentum, once you start to attract real investors those same people will want to 'partner up' because they see the value in the initiative.

I was one of the people that scoffed at my mate for trying it, he got 6 job offers 4 from boutique asset managers, 1 consultancy firm, and 1 BB. I got 48 rejections and 2 acceptances, it is all about what you do independently and starting a group like that is an excellent use of your time.

Good luck

Where/how did you get the money?

Also, what type of value research do students do and how are student funds structured, as in how many people make the investing decisions and buy the stock?
