Substitute for AM summer internship

So I know that gaps on a resume do not go over well, especially for someone who does not have a very long record of being focused in a specific line of work. However, due to my current circumstances I will not be able to have a formal internship this summer. I was wondering if any of you guys had any recommendations for something that could potentially show my commitment to the field of AM and equity research as well as improve my technical skills? So far I have been thinking something along the lines of self-study courses related to research or modeling (any suggestions welcome). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Knock out the BIWS courses if you haven't already learned modeling. Read books on investing.

It still might not be too late to land an informal internship at a local boutique shop if you're really bent on having at least something on your resume for this summer.

Unfortunately, any kind of an internship is not an option (with be overseas). Modeling is something I need to improve on. Have you used those courses?

Not personally, but I'm actually starting them within the next couple of days to brush up on my modeling for my SA gig. There are plenty of testimonies online, though.
