T Rowe NYC
Does T Rowe actually hire people in NYC for investing seats? I saw this job posting and it mentions either NYC or Washington DC.
I plan on recruiting for Long Only roles during my MBA, and being in NYC post-MBA is my goal. Being able to avoid Baltimore would be ideal.
From my understanding the data science team is based there (and their office is quite cushy actually compared to the Baltimore office) but I also know of at least one analyst/PM that is also based out of NYC. I’m not really sure what the working arrangement is (fully remote/hybrid), but T. Rowe seems to be rather flexible if you are a rainmaker. For example, the crown jewel PM (can easily figure out who this is) literally goes to his castle on an island during the summer and works remotely. I’ll also add that while the vast majority of investment professionals are in the Baltimore office, I also know of investors working in NYC, DC, Philly, and SF
I don’t know any specifics about t rowe beyond the general understanding that they are heavily Baltimore based but I would definitely caution anyone from comparing their possible work arrangement to the flexibility that is offered to the rainmaking “crown jewel” PM who owns a island castle. Great anecdote though
There are both analysts and PMs who live/sit in NYC (same with SF, DC), but most of them travel to Baltimore regularly. Don't need to be a rainmaker to live in NYC (there are juniors who live in NYC). Most people know that Baltimore is a suboptimal location, so location flexibility has become more pronounced.

Do you know if this is possible for MBA graduates (after completing a summer internship in Baltimore), or would it require spending a few years in Baltimore first
It is possible (and people have done it), but given the nature of ramping and building your network/credibility with PMs/other stakeholders it is ideal to be in Baltimore frequently when just starting out.
