UBS GWM vs JPM PB
Have offers for both programs and I feel like I know what I want but I just want to see perspective from others also.
JPM - Regional office (Summit, NJ) UBS - Weehawken/NYC office
Feel like I have a better connection with people in UBS. JPM has slightly higher pay. I would like to pivot into something more asset management related. UBS has a rotational program that allows you to work in the AM division. Also heard that investment side of JPM allows you to lateral well also.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key considerations for your decision:
Pivoting to Asset Management: UBS's rotational program, which includes exposure to the Asset Management (AM) division, could be a significant advantage if your goal is to transition into AM. This hands-on experience might provide a smoother pathway into the field compared to JPM's setup.
Networking and Connections: Feeling a stronger connection with the team at UBS is a meaningful factor. Building relationships early on can lead to better mentorship, support, and opportunities within the firm.
Pay vs. Long-Term Goals: While JPM offers slightly higher pay, it's essential to weigh this against your long-term career aspirations. If UBS's rotational program aligns better with your goal of moving into AM, the slightly lower pay might be worth it in the long run.
Location and Prestige: Both firms are highly reputable, but the UBS Weehawken/NYC office might offer better proximity to financial hubs compared to JPM's regional office in Summit, NJ. This could provide more networking opportunities and exposure to the broader finance community.
Lateral Opportunities: JPM's investment side is known for strong lateral mobility, which could be beneficial if you decide to explore other roles within the firm. However, UBS's rotational program might offer more direct exposure to AM, which aligns with your stated goals.
Ultimately, if your primary focus is transitioning into asset management, UBS's rotational program and your stronger connection with the team there might make it the better choice. However, if pay and lateral mobility within a broader investment platform are more important, JPM could be the way to go.
