Would you want to be an airline analyst right now?
Just curious, I got an offer for a sell side job covering airlines. Was wondering what the buyside prospects would be with that experience.

Depends on your opinion of the industry. Hopefully, this is short-term with covid. If it looks like a 1 - 2 year period of a downturn go for it, but if it looks long and drawn out like coal, oil & gas, then don't do it. There are some things you can ride out, and there are some things that you shouldn't....
Airlines is too narrow, you be covering cruise line / leisure (RVs, etc.) too? If so, maybe fine. If covering Boeing and parts guys (Transdigm, HEICO), still too risky.
If just airlines, buyside prospects not so bright IMO.
Thanks for the response. I messaged you the exact coverage on Instagram. Thanks for the help.
Obviously, it's not exactly a hot industry right now and airlines would be a tiny portion of most firms' portfolios, so it's hard to see it ever being in high demand. The only possible advantage is that most buy-side firms do not have an "airline analyst," so it's a coverage niche where the SS can add value. Ideally, you would be able to broaden your coverage to related verticals, i.e. also covering transportation stocks or other parts of the air travel value chain such as OEMs or airports.
