Accenture vs. Cornerstone Research

Hi all, was curious as to people's opinions regarding this decision. Need help evaluating a few options:

- Accenture Strategy Summer Internship

- Accenture Consulting Summer Internship

- Cornerstone Research Summer Analyst

Would love if people could give their thoughts and rationale. Please consider this is a junior summer internship, so potentially re-recruiting as a senior. They are also all in the same location.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights to help you evaluate your options:

Accenture Strategy Summer Internship

  • Focus: Strategy consulting projects, often involving high-level business decisions and long-term planning.
  • Experience: Exposure to strategic initiatives, working closely with senior executives, and potentially more impactful projects.
  • Career Path: Strong foundation for a career in strategy consulting, with good exit opportunities to top MBA programs and other strategic roles.

Accenture Consulting Summer Internship

  • Focus: Broader consulting projects, which may include implementation and operational improvements.
  • Experience: Diverse project types, potentially less strategic and more operational or technical.
  • Career Path: Solid consulting experience, but may not be as focused on strategy, which could affect exit opportunities compared to a pure strategy role.

Cornerstone Research Summer Analyst

  • Focus: Economic and financial consulting, often related to litigation and regulatory matters.
  • Experience: In-depth analytical work, heavy on quantitative analysis and research.
  • Career Path: Excellent for those interested in economic consulting, finance, or pursuing advanced degrees in economics or finance. Strong exit opportunities to top MBA programs and PhD programs.

Considerations for Re-recruiting as a Senior

  • Accenture Strategy: Likely to provide the most strategic experience, which is highly valued in re-recruiting for senior roles or top MBA programs.
  • Accenture Consulting: Offers a broad consulting experience, which is valuable but may not be as specialized in strategy.
  • Cornerstone Research: Provides a niche but highly respected experience in economic consulting, which can be a strong differentiator in re-recruiting, especially for roles requiring strong analytical skills.

Conclusion

  • If you aim for a career in strategy consulting or want to maximize your chances for top MBA programs, the Accenture Strategy Summer Internship is likely the best option.
  • If you prefer a broader consulting experience with diverse project types, the Accenture Consulting Summer Internship could be a good fit.
  • If you are interested in economic consulting or finance and enjoy quantitative analysis, the Cornerstone Research Summer Analyst position would be ideal.

Choose based on your career goals and interests, as well as the type of experience you want to gain during your internship.

Congrats on some great offers! I run undergrad recruiting for a target school / my alma mater at a major strategy firm and always look favorably on people who interned in economic consulting. Accenture strategy wouldn’t be as eye-catching, unless you had a particularly cool case experience that you were able to convey in a coffee chat. But that’s a roll of the dice. And I’d pass on Accenture consulting altogether.
