Are you fat?

I've heard that it's tough to stay in shape as a consultant for a variety of reasons (the food, no time to exercise, etc). Is this true? For those who manage to stay fit/healthy, how do you do it?

SirBarneyOr...Just watch what you eat, don't eat junk food, and make it a priority to work out.

You don't need a gym to do push-ups, sit-ups, or run. It just comes down to your willpower and attitude.

Quoted for emphasis. Is it harder when you're working long hours? Yes, but not getting fat (for most people) is a matter of healthy eating and exercise. Of course there will be outliers, but if you're one of those, then likely you should know how to manage that (or at least take steps toward getting educated with regards to that).

Add pull ups to that and you have all you need to be in great shape.

Buy a jump rope. Learn some Crossfit Travel WODs(google that and i'm sure you'll find several). They will take you 20 minutes to an hour and require no equipment(some include pull ups if you have a bar available). You won't get fat.

Thread over. Even if you work long, you can put in 10 - 30 minutes every morning to either run or do pushups and sit-ups. Combine that with a healthy balanced (I recommend a lower carb diet), you will drop lbs fairly quickly over a few months.

most the consultants I know (live with one) are extremely obnoxious about getting to the gym. to the point where they discuss the pools at various hotels and pick managers/projects based on how flexible they are about squeezing in afternoon workouts. there is one HUGE dude I know who is in bschool now but used to be a consultant, like needs an upgrade because he can't fit in an economy seat kinda guy, but he has been big since like middle school.

My Brooks fit in my suitcase just fine. I'd feel differently if I were 6'6" with size 14 feet though...

I did the barefoot running shoes for this summer, worked out pretty well. I hate to admit that I did it partly based on backing space, but I guess its the consultant in me.

Takes some time to get used to, but is better for your lower legs. Do some quick research and then gradually ease into it. (half a mile out of your run and gradually increase) I picked it up over the summer so I ran completely barefoot before commiting $100 to shoes, could be tougher in winter.

I used to be a mgmt consultant, best way to stay in shape is work out in the morning, you'll get used to it, 6:30AM - 7:30AM. Hotel gyms in all honesty BLOW, I used to just run outside every morning, even in bumble fuck TN. Yes it is a lot harder to stay in shape traveling all the time, unless you're in citiies like boston, nyc, la, etc where they have 24 hr fitnesses and nice hotels with decent gyms. But you have to do what you have to do. It requires discipline, and for those who can maintain it they will remain healthy, while for the majority, they will pork up.

during the week, when i travel I run, do push ups, seat up.. in some hotels i can actually get a decent work-out.. (what typically kills me is summer travel to the south.. forget running, when it's 90F and humid at 6am).

over the weekend i hit a gym for heavy weights.
