Getting into consulting after graduation
My partner just graduated from a very competitive school, but with a terrible major. She double majored in Criminology and Sociology, which is what everybody does pre-law here. She changed her mind and wants to get into management consulting.
I'm doubtful that she will have a good chance at analyst positions given a non-finance or analytical major, but maybe I'm wrong. Given that, what's the path to consulting from here? MBB isn't important, pretty much anything decent will do.
I was in PE and now in-house FTSE500 so consulting is foreign to me. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully I'll be able to pass on some guidance that can help. I tried to do some research but couldn't find any advice relevant to non-finance graduates.
Not_Who_You_Think, pure crickets, that's where I come in. Any of these useful?
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
It may be harder for her to market herself with these somewhat obscure degrees, but analyst is too entry-level for it to matter that much. Good school won't hurt and some demonstration of competency in helping people solve problems will help a lot.
Furthermore, there's always a project for everyone out there. For example, in FedGov, maybe the consulting company has a project with DHS, CBP, FBI, BOP, etc that will benefit from this kind of background. Economics-wise the silver lining to the cloud of weird specialization is that it is also scarce. If demand for this background is low, maybe supply is yet lower.
