Got this email from Bain after doing hirevue. Is this rejection email or what?

This is the second time I've received the following email from them in the last 4 months. Applied to them in June 2022 and then got a HireVue invitation (Consutlant 2022) in July, upon submitting, I got the same email below but with 2022 instead of 2023 and being role that recruiting would resume in the fall. Got in touch with the recruiter myself a few weeks back over email, and they asked me to do a HireVue (which was stated as experienced industry hire 2023), which I did, and then I got the same email again....

Thank you for your interest in Bain and for your time spent in the recruiting process with us so far.  Given our progress towards our 2023 hiring goals to date and our evolving capacity needs across offices, we now plan to resume our industry/experienced hire recruiting process in early 2023.

We are still very interested in your candidacy and would love to keep your application active and stay in touch with you over the coming weeks.  If you haven’t already joined our mailing list, we’d encourage you to do so here, as we plan to continue to share details about upcoming Bain events and deadlines via that list.  If you determine you are no longer interested in opportunities at Bain or if you have questions at any time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.  We hope to be back in touch in early 2023 with an update on our hiring plans and with more details on potential next steps in the recruiting process

I see. That means even the first one I got was a rejection. Any thoughts on why not straight up reject? The first email was this, so it was worded slightly differently...

Thank you for your interest in the Consultant role at Bain & Company and for completing our digital pre-screening assessment. Our team enjoyed learning more about you through your responses.

Given our current capacity needs and planned recruiting timeline, we would like to keep your application active and will plan to reach out with updates later this fall when we resume our next active recruiting cycle. We will also ensure you receive details on upcoming events and informational sessions for experienced hires in the August/September timeframe as they are confirmed.

If you no longer wish to be considered for opportunities at Bain or if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our team at any time.

Thank you again for your interest – we look forward to keeping in touch with you!

Best regards,

Bain & Company Consultant Industry Recruiting Team

I read this as a hiring freeze for experienced hires - this isn’t what a Bain rejection email looks like. Not at Bain so cant tell you with 100% certainty, but with market conditions it makes sense. If they wanted to reject you I think you would get a normal rejection email so you don't keep bothering recruiters.

I would try to reach out to someone for clarity though.

I read it as the same. Seems they're implementing hiring freeze until early 2023 where they'll reassess experienced hiring needs across offices.

It doesn't sound like a rejection at all. More so, "we put the position on hold, but we remain interested in you as a candidate" type of thing.

I see where you're coming from, this could be true in principle. But more practically, with the hundreds of applications they receive, what do you think the odds are that OP's application will genuinely be reconsidered / actively be kept?

My expectation is that it will be buried among the mass. I am not part of the recruiting or leadership team, so I can't exactly comment on what they will factually do with his (and other similar) application(s). But I wouldn't exactly hold my breath, as I have received many similar emails in the past (not from Bain but from industry / other consultancies) and never once heard anything back, even after reaching out.

I want to think we're a little better than that, but on numbers alone I'm not convinced. I will say this though for OP, generally keeping in touch with your recruiter is a good idea. I know I had some tech issues with the online test (long story short: got rejected for failing to complete it on time, but I had an extension) and the recruiter I was exchanging emails with was very reassuring and helpful throughout the process.

FYI, I am also an experienced hire, but not in US offices.
