I’ll be honest, if you have no experience at all with casing you’re going to be in for a tough time. I would look at the practice cases the firms post on their websites, try and get a couple rounds of live cases in with a friend (preferably one who has interviewed for the firm you’re going for), memorize a framework or two, and hope for the best.

Also, don’t forget to tailor your prep to the firm you’re going for. For example, McK heavily weighs the PEI portion of the interview so you’d have to keep that in mind. I can’t remember if it’s Bain or BCG that does interviewee led cases rather than interviewer led but also something to keep in mind.

I’m sure someone else will chime in with more info but that should at least get you started. I’m curious though, how did you end up in this position? When I interviewed for McK I knew like 9 weeks in advance and had plenty of time to prep.

Its all my fault, I had ages to prep, I was just too pre-occupied doing other stuff that I kept putting it to tomorrow and now I'm here ffs.

Honestly Im thinking whether I should cancel but it'd be good experience as I've never done a consulting interview before, its my only interview with a MBB firm tho.

Out of interest, I'm not sure if you work for MBB, but if you do is there a big difference in work-life balance between MBB and tier 2 consulting firms? I have a feeling that MBB work you to the bone more than places like OW, EYP etc. I did an internship at a Bulge Bracket and I go to a target university, and I'm coming to the realisation that working for the elite brands means you work harder and I dont really like it.

Gotcha. In that case, I would say it might not be the worst idea to see if you can reschedule for a later date. Don’t straight up cancel cause I mean worse comes to worst you’ll just get rejected, but at least you’ll know what the interview is like should you choose to reapply. In my experience, my recruiter had no issue with rescheduling for a later date when I asked because I was sick with COVID. I’m assuming you’re not feeling ill or anything right now and maybe you’re morally opposed to lying so it’s not something I would say you SHOULD do but….certainly something you COULD do.

As far as working at an MBB, no, I have no experience as I was rejected after the first round case interview. From what I’ve heard from people at MBB and T2 firms though, there are differences in hours even within the same firm. Seems like it mostly depends on what industry you’re focused on, who your managers are, etc., but the average is around 60 hrs/wk for most people. Obviously there are some exceptions; one guy I know in an MBB PE practice in NYC works IBD hours while another in a T2 firm focusing on government projects works like 45-50. But again, second hand info so take it with a grain of salt.
