How competitive are Deloitte/Accenture?
I'm assuming Tier 1 is out of the question for me, so I'm looking toward Deloitte/Accenture type places, especially since I have some familiarity with the big accounting firm type background.
Undergrad large state school, ranked ~100, GPA 3.6 MBA ranked ~20 (just started)
Work experience
1.5 yrs IT desktop support for a small business (does this even count?) 1 yr Big 4 accounting (received CPA license)
Am I a good fit here? If I was brought in, considering my lack of quality work experience, what level would it be?

Deloitte and Accenture are both still top rank. If you have a CPA, and seeing that you did some level of IT you should have a decent shot at their IT Audit business. You can also try applying to Protiviti.
I'm not really interested in anything with audit in the title. I want out of any role which is primarily accounting.
So it still takes a top 10 MBA for Deloitte or Accenture strategy? Top 5?
What about consulting on the IT side, like Deloitte's BTA?
If you want to be on the consulting side then Top 10 is needed, and industry experience gives you an edge. If it's for audit then top 10 doesn't matter as much since you already have CPA.
I know plenty of people who have gotten deloitte consulting out of an mba ranked 25-40 in most ramkings
Yeah, you will def see people from elite MBA programs (Columbia and Wharton placed several people this year) go to deloitte consulting but a lot of people make it from lesser schools.
Depends on which group within Accenture. For Strategy, its Top 10 (seen Chicago, Duke, etc.). If you want to try some other group within Management Consulting, its still Top 20ish (seen Emory, UNC, but also UMich, UVa or even Wharton). MBA recruits come in as consultant. For IT, I have not heard of any direct MBA recruiting.
And for whoever posted the lists of companies recruiting, it has Goldman going to Simon, but I won't count on getting hired by them out of there. You need more specific placement information.

As a career consultant who has worked with McKinsey, Booz Allen, and Accenture, I can tell you that some if this is BS. First off, if you're getting caugt up in prestige, that should take the back seat here. If you're in a top 10 consulting program (MBB, Accenture, Monitor, Deloitte, you're in great shape. Compare them to top 10 schools. Going to Georgetown is not vastly different in prestige than UPenn or Brown. They're all great starts. Also, everyone has their own definition of ranking. ConsultingMag has a completely different list than Vault. This whole Teir 1, 2, 3 stuff is completely a waste.
I can tell you that honestly, comparing the three experiences, my favorite has been strategy with Accenture. The strategy group is an elite business unit that is doing exciting work with a strong work/life balance, culture and the best compensation I've received. I don't know much about Deloitte: they have a great culture and all but the people I know there have found their work a bit mundane. Remember, it's part of the Big 4 and its core competency is accounting, not consulting.
