How screwed am i? - Job phase right now
hey everyone, so i am in the job phase right now...however am getting pretty much no love from any firm. i have a BS in biochemistry and molecular biology and an MPH in health policy and management. i am trying to get any kind of healthcare advisory analyst position possible. i wanted to do strategy and operations work, however at this point will do anything that is remotely associated with healthcare. the problem lies in the fact that almost every position i read about, they ask for individuals with accounting, finance, and economics backgrounds...i have none. i have taken 1 economics course, 1 accounting and 1 finance total. is it even possible to get into consulting with my background? i have applied to all the big firms (such as PwC, Deloitte, ow, mercer, Towers Watson, abt, kurt salmon, Booz Allen hamilton) and even insurance firms for their strategy consulting roles, still nothing. i have to be prepared that i might not be able to break in, if that is the case is there something you guys recommend i do to gain experience that will help me land a role in a consulting firm?

If anything, look at where you are demographically and the jobs at which you are applying to.
Some States offer a lot of positions in health care.
If anything, don't give up. In life, there isn't much we have control over, but we do have control over the effort we put in.

Your educational versatility is many a government organization's wet dream come true. Have you perused the federal job sites? Might not be what you want to do long term, but a few years in government gives you a lot of exit ops. MPH generally doesn't get a lot of love from industry, but government and nonprofits usually fawn over it. Just an alternate route to consider taking.

thanks for your input guys. i have thought about gov jobs but what kind of exit opp come with it? you may laugh, but my dream firm to work for is PwC. i want to work in their health operations division, is there anything i could do to best align myself with them? i would take any entry level analyst position..
i know someone with a 2.8 gpa and no internship experience get into PwC.
2.8 gpa from target though.
i went to 2 non-targets, pwc hires from them both...but for accounting only. i spoke with a director of health advisory at pwc whom has the same background as me but he said my experiences are lacking, i am even having trouble securing a summer internship with firms...
why don't you consider something in healthcare unrelated to your target job and then moving up through the ladder to achieve it. Better to have a job in your industry that isn't your target job than none at all. Once in, begin interacting with that sector and get your big break!
It seems possible to get into consulting with any background as long as you come from target university. If not, why don't you start somewhere unrelated to consulting, work for 2-3 years and then try to break it into consulting. Do you have any work experience now?
