When on a study, expect to travel Sunday night and back home Thursday night each week for 1-3 months to the same client. The percentage of time you will be traveling is dependant if you are staffed.

Right now MBB is not doing so hot. Most BA/ ASC’s have been on the beach for extended periods of time (think a couple of weeks to 6 months), and layoffs are in full effect.

Well… Hope you don’t get scared, but things have been bad here since Q1 22’. Leadership has been hopeful to bring in more deal flow, but have been unsuccessful.

Just want to be transparent here, as things have been on the DL.

Is this at Mck or all MBB?
Is there anything you would recommend me to prepare before I start this fall? Should I be looking at other jobs/exits in case I get let go soon after joining or offer is rescinded, and if so what type of jobs should I be looking for? Thank you!

All around.

Advice going into Mck: Honestly there is not really much I could say other than going in with 1) a “hunger to learn” mentality, and 2) Not falling in the trap of making work consume your life

For your first year at Mck, I would worry about learning about the firm, exploring different industries (whether you are staffed or not), and talking to different people you are working around.

Once you cross your 1st year mark (we call this 1+0 mark), I would suggest to actively apply to roles in industries you worked in or are interested in. Shop around. You never know what offer comes to you. I joined in Fall 22’, and now a good portion of my class got CTL’d or moved elsewhere.

Also hope this article helps out (also this article says 3000 people, but people from last cycle, and this upcoming cycle have not been accounted for)

I see thank you so much! Just wondering what type of roles did members of class who got CTLd or decided to move elsewhere choose or end up going too? That is a bit concerning that most BAs were gone after just one year. All I know is that a lot of people exit into “corporate strategy” but I thought that that required 2 years at Mck to get into. I’ll start looking into these right now before I start while I have the time. Thank you!

I got CTL at the 1-year mark. I wouldn't say that most people got CTL, but a good amount did. At my firm they account for 20% attrition in a 'normal' year (10% voluntary, 10% CTL). But since they way over-hired in the 2022 start class and the 'hot' exits aren't hiring as much now, it's looking more like 5% voluntary and 15% CTL to make up for the less voluntary attrition. I'd estimate that ~25% of the business analysts in my start class are gone, though not sure the voluntary/CTL split.

It may seem like everyone around you is crushing it, but honestly nobody runs around the office screaming "I got PIP'd" or "I got counseled out!" But at the 1-year mark you'll start to see people suddenly vanish from the office, their calendars will be empty, and a few months later they'll announce that they're moving onto a new exciting role.

Most people who left at this point went to corporate strategy analyst roles or startups. Not much PE and not much big tech given the market. But nobody I know has been unemployed for an extended period of time-- even in this market!

Got it thanks! What did you end up pursuing after getting CTL? And do those corporate strategy roles after 1 year at Mck generally have a large pay cut?
