MBB Dubai 5+ years then PE NY shift. Is it possible?

MBB Dubai to PE NY? Is it possible and when should I do the transition. I was thinking of getting my MBA at an ivy league school sponsored by the MBB and then move to PE. (Will need around 5 years - 1 before / 2 MBA / 2 at back at the firm). Will I then only be considered for an associate position at the PE or could I potentially be a VP when I do the move. Any thoughts?

very different scenarios depending on your work auth situation

if you wouldnt have any issues with work auth, you absolutely should exit before MBA. 2 years post-MBA youll most likely be too senior to jump (and you especially wont have the relevant experience to join as a VP, unless you mean as a VP in the ops group). instead, consider doing 2-3 years at MBB before jumping to PE and then getting your MBA (you lose sponsorship but gain the experience to land post-MBA PE roles)

if you would need visa sponsorship, well im not too sure about that. my impression is most PE funds do not sponsor visas, but i might be wrong on that. the work auth barrier might be more difficult to surmount than anything else

I have no issues in terms of the work auth as I have an american citizenship. To outline things further I’ve done a year in local IB (I didn’t move straight to PE NY because my chances would have been very slim). So basically consulting is just a stepping stone for me and a ticket for a fully sponsored MBA. Given that what is the best way I could get all of this without losing a lot of time? Do large PEs perhaps sponsor MBAs as well?

And thank you for your reply much appreciated!!

it varies a ton by fund, but from what ive seen they usually wont sponsor an MBA. that being said, PE comp should mean that paying back an MBA loan would not be that difficult.

i also just saw that you're planning on only doing 1 year before doing your MBA - you will not receive sponsorship if you only do 1 year. the minimum requirement for all MBB is 2 years pre-MBA i believe, but you should check the specific policy at your firm

the fastest path to PE would be to recruit for off cycle Associate positions ~1 year after you start at MBB. i do think you will need to choose between a sponsored MBA and going to PE

Great, thank you for your help. I think that covers it to the most part. Much appreciated!

Hi, I will be starting at MBB Dubai in a few weeks. Would you be able to share how your experience has been, and what type of PE-related (strategy&ops, CDD, portfolio co engagements) were you able to work on? I want to follow a similar path that you have outlined as well! If you would like to continue the conversation in private, feel free to PM or let me know and I can PM. Thanks in advance!
