Pity / Charity Promotions at Bain / LEK?

Hello lads,

We're interviewing candidates (replacement hire for a Snr. Assoc. / Jr. VP) and I can't help noticing that in the ex-consultant candidate pool there were a number of Bain / LEK folk who apparently were promoted to Managers and then left without jobs 2 months after promotion?

I mean, what in the hell?? Granted these folks have some variation of "wanting to take time off" blah blah blah, but does anyone know what's going on - do these consulting firms offer pity / charity promotions with the understanding that these candidates will need to leave soon after?

Appreciate any insight into this bewildering phenomenon
