Polysci to consulting?

I’m a 2nd year at a top public school with a polysci major with a decent gpa, but I’ve decided that law school is not for me, and I want nothing to do with politics. Ive been looking into other careers and consulting seems like something I’d want to do. In ur opinion, what’s the likelihood of getting a consulting job if I start this late? Also, what major would u recommend to go into consulting? Thanks in advance.

First, you should change the handle. If for nothing else, for credibility in the circles you're interested in connecting with. Giving you a pass bcs (i) you seem new to this industry and its norms for professionalism and (ii) I think more non-business students should explore the industry.

I think what you're aiming for is doable. Many of the highly-ranked public universities have alumni in consulting – speaking to them would be a great way to learn more about the requisites from your school specifically. LinkedIn will help you find them. The info I got while recruiting suggested that any major could join the firm, but experience with numbers/data is a big plus out of undergrad. The major selection may be school/firm-dependant, though. You have time to join consulting but should start asap to improve your chances.

Thank u, I appreciate the advice and I have started networking. But no, I will not be changing my username (i) this is anonymous, and I will not be getting any jobs off WSO and (ii) how will anyone know I am a big titty goth gf if I don’t say it?

That’s good to hear and I always keep my options open. I just hate the culture on this app, and only got it to ask this one question since Reddit wasn’t any help. Overall, I’m more interested in networking through LinkedIn and through connections I already have thru friends. I find this app unprofessional and repulsive at times and would like my professional life to be as far from this app as possible.
