Preparing for the Junior Year Summer Internship

I'm a sophomore at a nontarget midrange State U looking to break into MBB after graduation. I recognize how much of a long shot this is, and my resume is NOT where it needs to be. I have a couple of case competitions (best I ever got results-wise was a semifinals appearance), an approx. 4.0 GPA, and some applicable experience with a campus consulting group under my belt, but I'm surrounded by people in these groups and case competitions who are more qualified than me by orders of magnitude. I need the junior year internship, but I have absolutely no idea what I can do to separate myself from the pack. I'm weak in all areas, but would especially like advice on networking and soft skills- I can grind out Victor Cheng just as well as any target school student. Please give me any advice you can think of on what I can do now to make my application to MBB internship programs next fall as likely to succeed as it can possibly be, no matter how blindingly obvious you think it may be.

P.S. I won't be doing an internship this summer, but that's because I'm developing fluency in an East Asian language and will be studying abroad for that purpose.
