"Prestige" of office locations

Excuse me if this is a "noob question"; this is my first time posting on this board.

Is there a prestige factor associated with certain office locations versus others?

I have an interview with Bain next week. In retrospect, I regret applying to the Toronto office. I read in another thread in this forum that there were 8 final round candidates and 5 hires last year at the office. I didn't realize how small the office was before I applied.

My initial reasons for applying were two-fold: 1. I assumed that there would be less competition for the Toronto office. 2. I've lived in Boston all my life, and I really wanted to go experience someplace new. The mild climate and the proximity to a lake both attracted me.

Questions: 1. Is the Toronto office considered "lower" than the Boston office (I applied to Boston for my 2nd choice... wish I had put it as my first as Deanne Sisco seems to really like me). 2. If there is prestige inequalities between the offices, how does Bain Toronto compare to, say, Monitor in Cambridge? (I also interviewed with Monitor, but got killed).

Thanks!

My experience as been that any experience with Bain is good experience regardless of location. For example, B-school recruiters love Bain alum and do not care where you were stationed during your tenure. Someone from the Toronto office has just as good an opp to go to HBS, Stanford, Wharton or any of the other M7 schools.

Bain is as solid a company as they come (at least as resumes/b-school apps go)

Great, thanks for the advice guys!

As I mentioned in my 1st post, another member previously posted that there were 8 final rounders and 5 offers; is this accurate? If so, does anyone know how many first-round interviews are extended (and also how many applications in general)? Lastly, is there anyway I can find the actual size (# of employees) in the office? There wasn't much information on the Bain website.

Sorry for my naivety; I just recently "converted" to consulting in my senior year after being set on ibanking for the past 2 years.

Maybe they'll give you Boston if they don't have spots at Toronto but want you anyway.

Is it tough to get jobs outside of the US out of undergrad? I want to apply directly to an int'l office but want to know if that would take a lot more than simply applying to the NYC office.

Well, no matter where you get assigned, wouldn't you spend a day and a half a week on a plane heading god knows where anyways?

Hey guys, sorry for digging up this old thread, but can I ask for your opinions on McKinsey, Bain and BCG's Toronto offices? I heard McK has the strongest footprint (and the largest office) among the three. In the U.S. I think the three are about as prestigious and competitive, but are their Toronto offices regarded differently? Thanks a lot!!

Thanks for the input, wjdgusqls. Is that from a prestige point of view? Bain has a lot of PE work, and the relationship with Bain Cap - do people go from there directly into PE, or do they still go to bschools first??

to answer your question.. yes bain toronto is both less prestigious and easier to get into than say Bain Boston or Bain NYC or Bain Chicago, etc. Does it matter? not a great deal.
