Quant Internship to Consulting

I have an offer from a Quant Division at a solid Bank. I have a few interviews at one MBB and a few other tier 2 shops (Think OW, S&, LEK, Deloitte S&O). I've put a ton of prep into consulting and want that more than anything (even though the pay is substantially less). My offer is expiring relatively soon and I don't have a single consulting offer and dont anticipate any before my offer expires. Would it be more feasible to go from decent Quant (think Goldman Strat) position to consulting or from mediocre consulting to top consulting (MBB) for full time?  Not humble bragging or anything, I promise .I just have no idea what exit ops / general perceptions of this are by people not at banks. Appreciate any and all information!

1. Why can't you just accept then reneg if you get an offer you'd prefer?

2. Quant and consulting are different jobs. If you want to be a strategy consultant, taking a quant job in order to attempt to become a strategy consultant is not a great idea vs just starting off as a strategy consultant, so rather than analyzing it from the lens of which is easier to lateral from you should ask what you'd rather do

3. Lateraling is from T2 to MBB at/near entry level is uncommon, honestly I don't know almost anybody who has tried because you typically go down a level/restart, and depending on which firm you're at you can have pretty much the same experience as MBB

> Do you think the exits from this kind of position are good in general if I cannot break into consulting?

No clue what quant exits look like, but it's probably safe to say they're a different set of typical exits vs consulting

> Also, how do you reneg in a way that wont get you screwed?

Screwed with whom is the bigger question. You won't be able to get a job from the company you blacklist and your school might be annoyed with you and do things like restrict you from job boards, so you need to check out your university's career center policies on offer deadlines and punishment for reneg
