I have a 3.5 from NYU Stern, I am a rising Junior. Do I have realistic odds at the MBB, and how can I most efficiently use my time this summer to land one of those roles

How set are you in doing consulting? Because nyu is a great target for banking, but terrible for consulting. The entire school ships less than 5 people a year to MBB. The only “prestigious” consulting firm that targets nyu students is EYP, and that’s pretty much it.
If you just want to have a high paying job, forget about MBB and grind hard for banking. The odds are against you in consulting, especially with your gpa.
I would prefer to do banking, but I think for now it makes more sense to work towards consulting as my IB recruiting was unsuccessful. The recruitment cycle is basically over now for IB. I have to try to position myself to recruit well for a FT offer now after my senior year
Getting MBB with a 3.5 is a challenge from super targets like HPYSMS, let alone NYU. I would look at Tier 2 or think about lateralling to MBB after a summer in banking or something adjacent
"Realistic odds" is subjective. School is good, but GPA is alright. There's more to you than just your GPA and school though... Half of my MBB intern class are from schools that are considered to be on-par/less prestigious than NYU. Any standout leadership or work experience?
Also no harm in trying for MBB. Even if you fail, you'll be well prepared for the T2's.
I manage a team of 8 students investing 40 ethereum to find alpha in the crypto market in our blockchain club. I worked at a $1b aum P/E fund last summer (2 months) as well as a $1b aum investor activist hedge fund (1 month). This summer I'm at a micro hedge fund that uses an in house AI for trading.
You're right though, I'll give it a shot anyway, T2 is still huge
Leadership experience like that is great. Don't put investing crypto in your interests though.
Consulting doesn't really care about where you worked, but rather what work did you do. PE Fund and Hedge fund are great, but you need to talk about specific projects you took ownership of, what you contributed, and their impact.
Also, AI is all the rage in consulting these days. Try to talk about how you use it effectively (if at all).
