I can really only answer question #2. Coming from MA myself, there is a significant difference. The need for heating oil is heavily reduced in the typically warmer South. Property taxes(and taxes in general) are generally higher n MA compared to places in the South. I'm looking to move down there soon as well.
Can you talk to someone in career services at your school to see if they have any input?
If not, just figure out the average salary/bonus/whatever at your program for somewhat similar positions or firms and ask for a little bit more than that. They'll either give it to you or will negotiate you back to the average.
THanks DickFuld - most of the candidates at my school are young kids with little to no experience so they tend to get placed mostly in entry level roles. So the school unfortunately has no data/information on such things. I have been an outlier in this program with respect to experience etc. (I went there because it cost me almost nothing in tuition). The school is essentially a good undergrad business school. Ive checked online on glassdoor and noticed the range for the very role I'm being recruited for but I'm obviously not aware of :
1.) the brand name of the school (if the applicant was a graduate) and/or
2.) their prior experience (and the extent of it) mattered
3.) whether location was a factor in it.

The low in that range was a 100k.
