Rising Junior Summer Internship at Accenture

I'm a sophomore at a target school, and my goal is to land an internship with MBB as a rising senior. What internships should I be looking at to be on the right track? Is it okay, for example, to spend time at a firm like Accenture or Deloitte, or does the "Kiss of Death" apply for internships as well? Thanks so much in advance!

I know multiple people who have summered at Accenture, Deloitte and other "lower-tier" consulting firms and went on to land at MBB full-time. It's certainly not a "kiss of death" to intern at one of those firms, especially during the summer after sophomore year.

With that said, I'd recommend doing something non-consulting if you're planning on doing a consulting internship after your junior year anyways to get a different experience. That'll help you figure out if consulting's really the best fit for you.

Do you guys think that someone who has done BB summer internship has much advantage over someone who did startup internship for FT roles, or this isn't the case?

Yes of course, unless that "startup" was one of the new upcoming and famous startups that are brewing in SF.

A huge portion of my BB's SA class who didn't return ended up getting interview with MBB for FT. Definitely on par with if not better than many T2 consulting firms in terms of receiving interviews. Amusingly enough though, T2 consulting firms are pretty notorious for not wanting BB SA's.

I discussed this previously with a former McKinsey Engagement Manager. He told me when reading applicant CVs all they're looking for is brand names, a brand name (Blue Chip F500) is in itself an indicator to them that you're good enough to make it through a selective recruitment process, they prefer brand names over more relevant experience in lesser known companies. He worked in the Dubai office so it may vary on location.
