Strategy& M&A Strategy team reviews (London)
Hi all, recently got an offer from Strategy&'s M&A Strategy team in London. Was wondering as to how they stand from a market recognition and deals pov / if it is still worth going there!

Mostly operational due diligence, tough hours. Great brand just a notch below MBB. Watch out is that I heard they recently laid off a meaningful number of MBA consultants as things are slow for them, so depends if you're a graduate or MBA hire.
Directly from people who work there. Don't know quantum but I know 1st and/or 2nd years were hit pretty badly
They overhired this cycle, but no one's been laid off (unless you count the usual counselling out that happens at every quality firm). S& really wants to avoid another 2016 incident, and is doing their best to cross-staff folks into verticals that are selling well (HIA, FS).
The London office had a couple of tough years with MBA hires. There were no MBA layoffs, but there were abnormally high performance shortcomings (counseling out more than expected). There was A LOT of internal investigation to understand the root cause, as well as significant investment in the MBA pipeline. The last couple MBA cohorts have done very well and are being developed to be leaders in the firm.
Actually if you do not mind me asking - would you happen to know how exits into corporate strategy might pan out if the work is mostly CDD / ODD? seems that it would be very constrained haha
Used to work there (Booz & Co.) before the acquisition by PwC.
Market recognition is top particularly for certain verticals (telecom, tech, private equity dd) and geography (Europe, Middle East, APAC). Most easily end up at GSB/ HBS/ MIT Sloan/ Wharton/ INSEAD/ LBS, exit to corporate development roles at F250, well-regarded start-ups, or very respectable PE funds (e.g. Advent, KKR, EQT), but mainly in Europe. Partners have great networks and will vouch for you.
Thanks! would you say that Strat& folks tend to exit into one particular role (e.g. PE vs Corp dev), or if it is all over the place? My biggest concern re the job is if I'd be looking at a much narrower band of exits versus MBB or the sorts
It's essentially all over the place, which is the case for most consulting firms regardless. If you're looking to transition to the buyside from consulting, it's much more personal networking-driven. For corp dev roles, it's a fairly level playing field, since you typically exit to one of your clients.
