Top 20 liberal arts college or big London university?
Hey,
I have now spent a year at the small, top 20 liberal arts Hamilton College in New York as well as a year at King's College London in the UK doing Economics/Business.
I now have the opportunity to decide where I wish to finish my degree (2 years remaining in the UK or in the US).
If I stayed at King's College, I would have 2 years left, one of which I would spend at the University of Hong Kong studying abroad and one final year at King's College London. I would have those big names on my degree and the worldwide recognition that comes with it (?).
If I went back to Hamilton College, I would have 2 (or possibly 3) years remaining - with a nearly full ride. I could benefit from the exceptional Hamilton alumni network (no question mark here).
There are tons of arguments for these two very different choices and I am a bit confused. Even though I am probably staying at King's College (HKU), my heart says Hamilton College is just an overall better experience. Just to add, as of now, I have not made up my mind about where I'd like to work later so I guess this might depend on where I graudate.
I would like to ask which path you guys think would provide me with better prospects after graduation should I wish to go into consulting (or finance)? It is always interesting to hear what others think.

You will always struggle out of KCL simply because LSE alumni will black-ball you. I am serious, we hate the poly on the strand that much.
If you have a full-ride at Hamilton, it is the better choice.
Pass on KCL. Its definitely looked down upon by LSE, UCL, Imperial students.
In the end, it depends where you want to work.
KCL might not be in the same league as the top London schools, but is Hamilton really going to help him land a job? I feel like you might be better off at Kings since you can network in London and Hong Kong (assuming you went there for a year too).
KCL is not in the "Top Tier" of target schools (Oxford, Cam, LSE) but it is very frequently included in the list of target schools for MBB and other consulting firms i.e. I would be really surprised if a 1st from KCL did not tick the academics box for all but a very few firms.

Thats why I said, it depends on where OP wants to work, not industry but destination. KCL isnt known for placing a lot of candidates into consulting or finance gigs but from my experience, end up in Big 4 (no denigrating them).
And with the state of London's visa situation, why pass up on a almost free-ride for what might be?
I agree with wat you are saying as a lot of grads from King's go to the big 4...but in terms of visa, I am European so it should not be an issue - unlike the US (even though I assume, perhaps naively, if I do get a job it can be taken care of)

There might be some OCR at King's--there probably won't be any at Hamilton. There wasn't at my lac, which is ranked slightly higher than Hamilton.
That said, you should send emails to Hamilton alumni that work in consulting and ask for informational interviews on the phone. Many will be happy to chat. Since you're still in college, they will be open to talking about internship opportunities--way easier to ask about internships directly than about jobs.
