Which university for consulting (EU)?
Hey guys, I am currently deciding to which university I'll go and which program I'll attend. I am from Germany and have the opportunity to go to
TU Darmstadt - Political Science
University of Kassel - Political Science (business minor) - Business - Business Law
I want to break into consulting afterwards, which University / program would be the best for accomplishing this? I'm highly interested in the asian market as well, but don't know if the choice of my university would have a great impact there.
Any help is appreciated.
For consulting i would advise you to go to Darmstadt. Even though pol sci is not the biggest target program, the uni itself is targeted by all the major companies so you shouldn't have an issue to get interviews.
truth be told, both programs are not exactly top notch to break into consulting.
I agree with Maverick that at TU Darmstadt there's a chance you get lucky - but be aware: it's a TU, so they go there looking for Darmstadt's TECHNICAL students, not PolSci.
Germany's Tier1 (McK, BCG, Roland Berger) will be extremely tough with this major.
They are looking for students from a) business - 50% b) engineering / NatSci - 40% c) completely outside the box / exotic - 10%
PolSci fits neither of those categories really well so make sure to pick as many finance / data analysis courses as possible, do extra curricular activities from day one and try to build up your internships (Big4 -> consulting boutique -> large consultancy)
best of luck!
Ok, thank you very much for your insight and tips. :)
just curious, how come you picked these two? Why not something more relevant to the subject (pol sci)? Hertie, Humboldt or so?
Sciences-Po Paris is good.
I got my school certificate really late (in the night of the deadline, so I couldn't apply at this point) and most universities told me to get lost, as it was beyond the deadline (and they have like a billion applicants this year, due to the double amount of school leavers). So I didn't have that much options to choose from.
well, you can always transfer...which might be good choice in your case...
I'll keep that in mind.
