Does a CD internship give you any good opportunities after college?

I recently had a long internship search for this upcoming summer in which I learned a lot about myself. I eventually landed a Corporate Development and Strategy position at a $1.0B+ company. I am not sure if this firm offers full time after the summer. I have long heard many voices tell me how it is next to impossible to land a CD job right out of undergrad, any many people who eventually join CD are either ex-IB or ex-consultants. This makes me feel like I would have to do something completely different after school (or join the masses in the IB and Consulting recruitment processes soon). What is the best way to go about this, and what opportunities are there for someone in my position?
