Is Corporate M&A at a BB BO or FO?
The Corporate M&A division is grouped into the corporate finance division at the BB I work at. I know most of the time, Corporate M&A would be considered FO, but even though the division works on M&A transactions, would it be BO?
All of corp dev is technically BO since we don't bring in any revenue into the firm. That being said, no one outside of banking cares.
I think the site is stupid when it comes to that categorization. In my opinion it is why ER isn't viewed as highly as IB or S&T despite the fact that the ER people tend to enjoy their jobs the most.
I can see this viewpoint but my (half glass full) view is we are bringing in revenues by purchasing it. Also when we are divesting assets, that's cash to the company as well.
Either way, I don't think the typical FO, MO, BO framework fits into the corporate finance world.
