Radio Silence after Superday, Normal or Bad Sign?

I recently had a Superday for a major bank’s summer analyst program. A couple of days later, I got a “congratulations” email saying I was moving forward and asking me to complete a few follow-up steps (like uploading additional info and Headshot). Since then… nothing. It’s now been about a week since the Superday, and a few business days since that email.

The application status still shows “Business Review,” but no offer call or rejection yet.

Is this kind of delay typical? Does radio silence after a positive email usually mean you’re still in play and waiting on approvals, or should I start managing expectations?

Would especially appreciate insight from anyone who’s been through this kind of internal HR limbo, it’s driving me crazy not knowing if I should stay hopeful or move on.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, delays and radio silence after a Superday, even following a positive email, are not uncommon. Here’s what you should consider:

  1. Internal Processes Take Time: Banks often have multiple layers of approvals and internal reviews before finalizing offers. This can include background checks, headcount approvals, and aligning with other candidates' timelines.

  2. “Business Review” Status: This status typically indicates that your application is still under consideration. It’s neither a rejection nor a confirmation yet, so you’re still in play.

  3. Follow-Up Steps: The fact that they asked for additional information and a headshot is a positive sign. It suggests they’re preparing for the next steps, but it doesn’t guarantee an offer.

  4. Typical Delays: A week or so of silence isn’t unusual, especially if the firm is coordinating decisions across multiple candidates or waiting for final approvals.

  5. Managing Expectations: While it’s reasonable to stay hopeful, it’s also wise to continue exploring other opportunities. This ensures you’re not overly reliant on one outcome.

If the silence continues for another week, consider sending a polite follow-up email to HR or your recruiter to reiterate your interest and inquire about the timeline. Keep it professional and concise. Good luck!
