Why so many people are leaving high finance to join/start startups?
I have been observing the following trend for some time now. I have noticed a lot of people are leaving coveted finance roles for startups. I don't quite understand the reasoning but maybe someone can shed to why?
the EV of traditional high finance is getting compressed.
Doesn’t mean it’s not a good field still. But there’s more to this world besides IB/PE/HF
This is a good point, could you elaborate more on it?
What's the point of joining buyside if after two years you're kicked out? Like it makes more sense to just stay in IB if you want to chase $$$. Other option is just to go for startup with the hope of evolving into a more operational focused role
How often are people kicked outside of buyside?
90%
Depnds on firm. These numbers are for those that make it to VP. Some MF's are ~10% or even lower ; on the high-end some of the newer funds or growing MM/UMM's are closer to half or higher. There are some firms that are smaller and newer where they promote everyone, assuming they are good, but that's not common in PE.
Cause you get equity and then Spacex buys your company and then Spacex ipos and you make millions doing comparatively jack shit
