Why so many people are leaving high finance to join/start startups?

I have been observing the following trend for some time now. I have noticed a lot of people are leaving coveted finance roles for startups. I don't quite understand the reasoning but maybe someone can shed to why?

Depnds on firm. These numbers are for those that make it to VP. Some MF's are ~10% or even lower ; on the high-end some of the newer funds or growing MM/UMM's are closer to half or higher. There are some firms that are smaller and newer where they promote everyone, assuming they are good, but that's not common in PE.
