Bain Capital Credit - Thoughts ?

Any insight on this group at Bain Cap?

Comp, WLB, culture, exit opps.

Is comp competitive with IB? Currently a Soph IB SA and looking to intern at Bain Cap Junior year with hopes of a FT offer.

Glassdoor says average pay is around 150k for analysts, can someone back this data up?

Thanks !

depends on which team you're interested in. They have 3 teams: private credit, special situations, and industry research (where you are an industry specialist and working on liquid high yield and special situation investment opportunities)

Any info on what the industry research team is like? Primarily would be interested to hear if analysts / associates that cover the full range of HY / LL / special sits report to a PM as more of a HF type role or is it more deal team like (VPs / Principals / etc). Also after starting on the industry research team would one have to specialize in an asset class when moving up (i.e focus on private credit or special sits at the mid level or can they continue covering the industry across strategies)?

Thanks for sharing. What does your friend say about 1: culture, 2: type of work he does and split between liquid/illiquids, and 3: exits to MF PE?

This is no longer accurate. New offers are for 110k base, target 100k bonus.

Want to correct some misconceptions about BCC. I have first hand knowledge (gf, roommate, etc).

Class of 21 comp for first year analyst is 100k base + [edited] bonus

Class of 22 comp for first year analyst is lower at 100k base + [edited] bonus.

Only 3 of the 8 analysts from class of 20 remain.

Not sure tbh. Anecdotally, NAPE is higher than BCC, but I've heard from analysts in NAPE that it's still below market.

That being said, I have a friend at BCC who says that hours worked are much better than a place like BX Credit, so the slight discount on pay does make sense

what does he think of the exposure to different credit strategies? Is he getting breadth of experience or is it largely high yield liquid credit and not enough private credit / distressed / special situations

There’s a big jump in comp at the associate level (after two years as an analyst). Associate comp is market (~300k) based on what I’ve heard anecdotally, but it would be great if someone closer to the firm could confirm this

Those numbers are outdated. New offers are for 110k base and 100k bonus for analysts out of undergrad. So not a discount compared to other MFs (there’s a decent signing bonus as well). Source: my cousin just got offered there

3/8 doesn't seem that bad for 2 year retention. How many were offered associate promotions?

Very well respected in terms of credit-oriented groups that do deals up and down the cap structure. Have heard WLB is pretty decent and pay is good (especially for Boston), analyst 1: 235k all in, associate 1: 360 all in, VP1: ~600k. Maybe somewhere closer the firm (I have second hand info from friends) could comment on Director level/MD level comp and WLB

-.-.-.-.-:

AN1 BCC is $235K? That seems very high..? $110K base + an almost 120% bonus is absurd.

It's confirmed $235k for AN1 including sign on bonus if you interned ($210 + $25)
