BMO Corporate Banking associate interview?
Interviewing tomorrow for an assoc role at BMO in corporate banking. Never interviewed with BMO before, and I thought the first call would be with a recruiter, but he invited a MD and VP to the call.
What should I expect going into this interview process? Modeling tests? Case studies?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
For a Corporate Banking Associate interview at BMO, you should be prepared for a mix of technical, behavioral, and possibly case study components. While specific details about BMO's process aren't explicitly outlined, here are some general expectations for corporate banking interviews:
Technical Questions: Be ready to discuss financial modeling, credit analysis, and valuation techniques. You might encounter questions about financial statement modeling, DCF, M&A, LBO, and comps. Brush up on these areas, as they are often tested in corporate banking roles.
Behavioral Questions: Expect questions that assess your problem-solving ability, teamwork, and how you handle challenging situations. Examples might include:
Case Studies or Modeling Tests: While not guaranteed, some corporate banking interviews include case studies or modeling tests. These could involve analyzing a target company, building a projection model, completing a DCF, or doing comps. You may also be asked to articulate your assumptions and provide a recommendation (e.g., "Should we acquire this company? Why or why not?").
Role-Specific Knowledge: Be prepared to discuss the M&A process, the role of an associate, and your understanding of capital markets products. Demonstrating familiarity with BMO's corporate banking structure and recent deals can set you apart.
Since the MD and VP are joining the call, this indicates a more formal and potentially in-depth discussion. Be ready to articulate your story, why you're interested in corporate banking, and why BMO specifically. Research their recent deals, culture, and any unique aspects of their corporate banking division.
Good luck with your interview!
