Current State of Private Credit/Distressed Credit Recruiting Scene

Hey guys, seeing the slowdown/challenging recruiting environment on the PE side, would like to start a thread to talk about Asso/Senior Asso/VP level recruiting on the credit side with a focus on PC and Distressed. Any color would be helpful, thanks.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the recruiting scene for Private Credit (PC) and Distressed Credit roles at the Associate, Senior Associate, and VP levels is quite dynamic. Given the increasing prevalence of private credit as an exit opportunity from investment banking, many are targeting firms like PennantPark, Maranon, Comvest Credit, HIG Whitehorse, GSO, and Ares. These firms often offer the chance to work across the capital structure, providing a rich and varied investing experience.

For those looking to transition into these roles, it's important to highlight experience in high-volume transaction environments and any exposure to complex financial structures. Networking remains key, and leveraging connections within the industry can provide crucial leads and opportunities. Additionally, demonstrating a strong understanding of credit analysis and distressed debt situations will be beneficial.

Compensation and career progression can vary significantly depending on the firm and specific role, but generally, moving up the ranks in private credit can offer competitive compensation and a stimulating work environment focused on deal-making and strategy.

For anyone transitioning from a related field like Leveraged Finance or looking for full-time opportunities post-internship, it's crucial to focus on building a robust understanding of loan covenants, credit risk assessment, and financial modeling tailored to credit markets.
