Got Laid off and still did not find a job, I'm loosing hope now

I got laid off in the summer because company politics and got 3 months of benefits. My resume is getting some interviews but not a lot, and there are 2 jobs I moved till the reference stage and was not selected. The previous boss did not like me (I hate to use racist as a flag but it is the case here). Talked about anything already happened is pointless but the key is I'm loosing hope now because I know I will never pass the reference check stage. I tried to let other team to give me positive reviews but usually the company don't care and only wants to speak to the previous investment team member.

At this stage I've been unemployed for 6months and I do not know how to explain my gap to the next companies although I'm still getting interviews but you can imagine the number is getting less.

I worked in Private Credit(BDC) in U.S and willing to relocate to any place. Any guidance/suggestions will help at this stage.
